Microlens Mass Measurement using Triple-Peak Events
نویسنده
چکیده
We show that binary microlensing events with three well-measured peaks (two caustic crossings plus a cusp approach) can yield determinations of both the projected Einstein radius r̃E and the angular Einstein radius θE, and so the lens mass M = c2(4G)−1r̃EθE. To a certain extent, rotation of the binary can mimic the effects of parallax, but should often be possible to disentangle parallax from rotation by making use of the late-time light curve. By extending the constant-acceleration analysis of Smith, Mao, & Paczy´nski to include jerk, I show that microlens parallax measurements are subject to a four-fold discrete degeneracy. The new degeneracy is characterized by a projected velocity˜v j = −(3/4) csc β ec (cos 2 ψ sin 2 β ec + sin 2 ψ) 3/2 v ⊕ , where β ec is the ecliptic latitude, ψ is the phase of the Earth's orbit relative to oppo...

متن کاملA microfluidic fluorescence measurement system using an astigmatic diffractive microlens array.
We demonstrate an opto-fluidic detection system based on an array of astigmatic diffractive microlenses integrated into a microfluidic flow focus device. Each astigmatic microlens produces a line excitation across the channel and collects fluorescence emission from the linear detection regions. The linear excitation spot results in uniform excitation across the channel and high time resolution ...
متن کاملFirst microlens mass measurement: PLANET photometry of EROS BLG-2000-5
We analyze PLANET photometric observations of the caustic-crossing binary-lens microlensing event, EROS BLG-2000-5, and find that modeling the observed light curve requires incorporation of the microlens parallax and the binary orbital motion. The projected Einstein radius (r̃E = 3.61±0.11AU) is derived from the measurement of the microlens parallax, and we are also able to infer the angular Ein...
متن کاملTwo Stars Two Ways: Confirming a Microlensing Binary Lens Solution with a Spectroscopic Measurement of the Orbit
Light curves of microlensing events involving stellar binaries and planetary systems can provide information about the orbital elements of the system due to orbital modulations of the caustic structure. Accurately measuring the orbit in either the stellar or planetary case requires detailed modeling of subtle deviations in the light curve. At the same time, the natural, Cartesian parameterizati...
